Ham Hill Country Park is now more accessible for all than ever before.
If you are looking for a relatively flat, well-surfaced, short route with mostly
very level camber throughout - the all ability trail is ideal. It is easily
negotiable for buggies, wheelchairs and those with limited mobility, and is very close
to the main Ham Hill car park (there is a reserved disabled parking space outside the Ham Hill Centre).
There are many features of interest on the all ability route, including a modern-day stone circle,
which is packed full of fossils and crystals, and old quarry workings that show exposed hamstone faces.
There are panoramic views across Somerset from the war memorial, and plenty of interesting plant species
that attract a range of insects throughout the summer.
Tramper
For people wanting to explore the countryside but have limited mobility, Ham Hill Country Park has an
off-road scooter available for hire called a 'tramper', which is designed to travel over rugged terrain,
and over long distances. Anyone over the age of 16 can hire the tramper for free - all that is required
is debit/credit card details for security. If you would like to hire the tramper, please phone the Ham Hill
Office on 01935 823617.
Before using the tramper, a member of Ham Hill staff will fully explain and show customers how to operate
the tramper, and there is a short familiarisation session to ensure operators are confident and competent.
We require customers to sign a straightforward document to say they agree to the rules of hire. For more
information about the tramper and the two routes that are available around Ham Hill Country Park have a look
at the tramper map and route information.
Please note, the tramper is only available during the rangers key time of work, which is from Monday to Friday, 8.00am - 4.00pm.
Audio Trails
There are two audio trails at Ham Hill Country Park, which include fascinating facts about the wildlife,
history and geology of the hill, as well as the important work that the SSDC Countryside Ranger team carry
out to conserve it all! These free trails are free to download in the form of short MP3 tracks, straight to
an MP3 device. To discover where the routes of the two audio trails go, have a look at the audio trail map.
This map is ideal for printing off and using alongside the directions that are given on each track.
To download, Right click on the file and select "Save Target as". You will then need to follow your mp3
player instructions to add these to your device. If you would like to save all tracks for a trail,
there is a zip folder containing all tracks. To download, Right Click on the zip file and select "Save Target As".
Please note, you will need to unzip this folder (which may require additional software) before adding the
tracks to your mp3 player.
If you don't have an MP3 player and would like to explore the audio trails on Ham Hill download the Audio Trail Leaflet which will explain each stop to you as you walk round, and there is a map to help you find each stop.
